Announcing... The Sow, Grow, Harvest, Rest Book Group
Join us and chat each month about what you're reading as I share my recommendations.
Last year I promised myself I would make more time for reading, to prioritise something I now know is vital to my mental health. For a long time, other things took priority and I found it hard to read for lots of reasons. A terrible admission for an English teacher, but it was true - I just couldn’t focus.
Building back my reading stamina took time but recapturing the enjoyment of a once-cherished hobby was my incentive. It’s one of the best changes and promises I’ve made to myself in recent years, alongside seasonal and slow living, and has helped to bring me back to myself in all sorts of ways.
Last year I read a whopping 52 books as a result, something I know is a privilege and that I don’t take for granted. I’d like to share some of what I learned from this experience with you, on how to prioritise reading, as well as book recommendations for different moods and seasons.
I can see the appeal of joining a book club - the accountability and focus and community. But I never liked the feeling of pressure they brought. And the thought of enforced socialising made this introvert want to run to the hills!
So here’s my idea instead: a book group where we simply “meet” online and share what we’ve been reading in my newsletter and in the comments. Gentle encouragement, a feeling of togetherness, plenty of reading recommendations but absolutely no pressure! And all from the cosy comfort of home.
If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, sign up below to join us and we’ll chat each month.
I’ll kick off with what I’ve been reading recently!
