While the colours and sights of Autumn make it a much-loved time of year for many, to me the scent of the season is an evocative and under-rated part of this special time too. And while the homely smells of Autumn - scented candles, warming spice, seasonal stews, baking pumpkins - are delicious in their own way, so is the smell of Autumn outside. Whether youβre in the city, with the scent of woodsmoke in the air and freshly fallen leaves underfoot, or in the countryside with the smell of pine needles and fungi after the rain, Autumn has its own particular aroma. Itβs full of nostalgia for me: the crisp scent of a ripe apple, the fresh clean smell of the first frost, a woolly jumper with a hint of bonfire.
