DIY Bobbin Mirror
Slow decorating with a simple craft referencing the Arts and Crafts movement 🎨
I’ve always had a thing for circles in design. I prefer a curved edge to an angle and the softness of a circle to the boxiness of a rectangle. The circular motifs of the Bloomsbury group are a favourite of mine, and the use of turned wooden bobbins by the Elizabethans, then later by makers in the Victorian Arts and Crafts movement, has always intrigued me. Adding a bobbin trim can take the edge off harsh lines and add an extra, thoughtful detail to something plain. When I couldn’t find the right mirror for our bathroom, I decided to make my own - and I thought I’d share the results, as it was a quick and easy craft that could be adapted to all manner of home projects. Now I’ve worked out how to add DIY bobbins to homewares and crafts, nothing is safe! Here’s how I went about customising a plain mirror for our bathroom.
