Eating seasonally, and opting for local and organic produce where possible, is at the core of the slow food movement - something I’m passionate about all year round, not just at the heights of seasonal abundance and Summer’s gluts. However, I know it can be hard to know where to start, especially in Winter. Yet thanks to brassicas, root vegetables, tropical fruits and citrus all being in season, there’s surprising bounty as Winter transitions into Spring. It’s as thought these ingredients appear just when we need them, providing sunshine in the kitchen at least. Here’s my list of in season ingredients for this time of year in the Northern Hemisphere and my tips for making the most of seasonal produce at this transitional time.
