Rosie Makes: a Mabon Flower Arrangement
Jam jars of local blooms with Ochre Botanical Studios in Edinburgh.
This time of year between Mabon and Samhain is my favourite for flowers. The combination of the changing leaves and foliage and the last of the Summer cottage garden flowers - dahlias and cosmos and scabious - really does have my heart. Not to mention the seed heads and other “#lovelydeadcrap” to be found and squirrelled away by yours truly (favourites are Nigella and honesty) - useful both for arrangements just now and reusing in wreaths in Autumn and Winter.
Last weekend I dropped by to a gorgeously floral masterclass with Instagram- and now real-life-pals Ochre Botanical studios. The collective of six studio florists has a wee flower farm that is a total hidden gem in Edinburgh, and I love to visit throughout the seasons. If you’re local, be sure to go and see them at Granton Castle Walled Garden when they have open days and take part in workshops for the recommended price of a donation to the garden. Read on for some flowery escapism…
