Seasonal shortbread for Burns Night next week 🍊
The festive season is a time steeped in tradition, and rightly so - but by learning about other seasonal rituals and making our own throughout the year it can help us to celebrate everyday, smaller moments too. Especially in the cold, dark seasons, having routines and rituals tied to Autumn and Winter is a way of grounding ourselves in the moment, something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately.
It’s something of a Winter tradition in my newsletter - and previously for many years in my blog - to share a shortbread recipe for Burns Night and/ or St Andrews Day, the former of which is next week. I like to give the traditional bake a seasonal twist, so this weekend I’ve made some with marmalade (my husband’s suggestion) and chocolate chunks (my suggestion) - making for a rich, buttery, citrus shortbread with sharpness from the marmalade peel and just the right amount of sweetness from the chocolate. However, be warned - I made a batch yesterday and they may have disappeared in a little over 24 hours…
