"And thus the snowdrop, like the bow
That spans the cloudy sky,
Becomes a symbol whence we know
That brighter days are nigh; ”

George Wilson, ‘The Origin of the Snowdrop.’

Have you spotted them yet, the first snowdrops of the year where you live, if you’re in the Northern Hemisphere? There’s something about clapping eyes on these wee white flowers that signals that the darkest, coldest part of Winter has now been, and the seasons are shifting steadily towards Spring. The delicate white, drooping blooms offer some much-needed assurance to even the weariest nature lover that Spring will come again; an important reminder of longer and lighter days are coming.
