Christmas seems to start earlier and earlier every year: on the one hand, I suppose it can heighten the anticipation, and I understand needing to feel any joy at this time of year, but it does rather cut short Autumn and puts a lot of pressure on us to find that festive magic early – where in reality, it might be lacking. The result, understandably, can be stress, obligations and overwhelm.

We tend to put so much pressure on The Big Day as the climax of celebrations that we can forget to enjoy the preparation along the way, where there is so much joy to be found. Think back to your childhood: I’m willing to bet that half the fun was in looking forward to Santa, and counting down the days on the advent calendar, as much as it was opening presents on December 25th.
