For me it is blackberries which are early this year although Heaney’s poem does start with “Late August”... I love to make an almond cake topped with caramelised apples and blackberries- a variation of a Hugh Fernley-Whittingstall recipe. Also it is damson time - probably my favourite fruit of all! Lovely post, thank you x

Oh yes, we’re a little behind here but I’ve seen the first ripening 🥰 Blackberries are my fave autumn fruit so there will be a whole newsletter dedicated to them! So glad you enjoyed the post, have a lovely weekend x

Lovely ideas! We’ve found some ripe blackberries and elderberries locally and I’ve made some elderberry syrup. I might mix the blackberries with some apple for a crumble.
