“I wonder if the sap is stirring yet, If wintry birds are dreaming of a mate, If frozen snowdrops feel as yet the sun And crocus fires are kindling one by one: Sing robin, sing: I still am sore in doubt concerning Spring.” Christina Rossetti As Christina Rossetti muses, sometimes it begins to feel like Winter will never, ever end. With the recent storms here in the UK and devastating damage left behind by the latest, Eunice, and the aftermath of Arwen still being felt in Scotland and the North, it might seem as though Spring is still so very far off. However, in today’s newsletter I wanted to encourage you to slow down once more and engage in a spot of noticing, as nature is starting to give us sure signs that the sap - and Spring - is indeed stirring.
How could I not love this when I did my MA thesis on the seasonal imagery in Christina Rossetti’s poetry? Here in Canada, we are still buried in snow with no sign of Spring, so it’s lovely to live vicariously through your newsletters and know that Spring is stirring on the other side of the Atlantic!
Yes things are definitely stirring. Catkins, Snowdrops, Crocuses and the first Daffodils.
