Such a lovely post, with the cutest blackcurrant & almond cakes!

I too struggle in summer. You will often see me hiding in the shade, hat on, sweat pouring down my brow, muttering; β€œI’m too ginger for this.” Feeling guilt that I am grumpy and not joining in the festivities. Another way in which I do not β€˜fit’. It is nice to know I am not alone. Thank you.

Thank you very much! Hope you make them ❀️

I completely hear you about hiding in the shade and the guilt and not feeling like you "fit". You are absolutely not alone. Sending solidarity and SPF 50 (I jest, but I see you). Xx

I’m a January baby so always find Summer hard. So much heat & sand & sweat & sleeplessness. I’m here with you!

Thank you for your words, Rosie. Keeping my head down, away from the noise of all forms of media has made a significant impact on my contentment, my feeling well. I realised I don't have to have an opinion. I also gain much from nature, cooking, and playing with my 2 yr old granddaughter. I wish you well. Motherhood is beautiful, it is hard. Your book sits close by me.

Thank you so much, as I was reading this I was thinking "yes!" My husband's family are Summer lovers and there is always a weight of expectation that we will have exciting plans and have done lots of things since we last saw them. As a hayfever sufferer I find outdoor gatherings a trial which is an unpopular opinion, the heat of midday makes me want to hide indoors with a good book and a cool drink! So lovely to read an alternative point of view.

Oh the expectation! I’ll be with you in the shade with a book and drink too in solidarity. I’m glad it resonated x

Thank you for this lovely post! It makes me feel very seen πŸ₯° I find parts of summer wonderful (the light! The garden in bloom! More chances to swim outside!) and parts very difficult (the heat! The sweat! The unrelenting sun! The pressure to be grateful for the unrelenting sun! The fact that heat and bright light flare my multiple chronic conditions!)

It's especially hard to struggle in a time when everyone kind of tells you that you should be thriving πŸ’›

I've really been struggling with various things (including world politics) and decided I need a slow, selfcare summer. Thank you for this post. This week I purchased and printed off some really cute colouring pages off etsy and have been colouring daily, and doom scrolling a lot less.

You’re not the only one! I get reverse SAD in the Summer time. The heat definitely makes my fibromyalgia worse and in a house without AC I find it much harder to regulate my environment. Thank you for sharing this so we know we aren’t alone too! πŸ₯°
